Kryptograms App Reviews

Shockingly addictive!

One of the most entertaining apps so far!

Wow!

This game is fun and chanllenging

Love love love it!

Im a huge fan of word games and this one keeps me entertained for a good chunk of time. The fact that its free is awesome and it definitely challenges the mind. The only problems I have with it are that it doesnt save your progress and sometimes your score is a little skewed based on whether youve played consecutive games or not. All in all its definitely a good download.

I love this

Its hard but its smart =)

Serious glitches, but still engrossing

You complete each puzzle a letter at a time - which can actually get pretty old. It would be great if you could "pin" the keyboard in place and type through a whole word or two once youve figured them out. Occasionally crashes, with the keyboard frozen (the letters depress, but nothing appears onscreen and you cant get back to the puzzle.) Thats especially frustrating because... ...You cant return to a game in progress. Someone phones you when youre halfway through a tough one? After your call, youll return to find your work gone. The "hint" functions are hard to understand, and work haphazardly. The solution to every puzzle is an aphorism, and theyre all kind of similar. A little more variety would be great. Finally - and this should be an easy win - give us the ability to mute the sound, please. The fanfare at the beginning and the applause whenever we solve a puzzle get irritating very quickly. But for all of that, its an addictive, simple game that can while away many a grocery store lineup. I enjoy it.

100% A++

I am a big fan of of these, and its awesome to see this for the iphone. Well worth the money even if it was $5 Id still think this as a great buy!!!

Much better price than before. Good app. :)

I like the app, hope there will be more updates with more cryptos. Price is right. Thanks

Terrible

This app is terrible! Why is there no option to quit a puzzle and have it show you the answer so you can move on and try the next one? If I could give negative stars or no stars I WOULD! Perhaps if that issue is fixed in an update I would change my rating.... But for now, dont waste your money!

Nice app, great its free, but...

a few problems arise when playing : 1. you cannot change the challenge only go by a pre-dictated order, 2. you cannot move on even if you are totally stuck, 3. you cannot get the right answer if you give up on a challenge. Please fix that and it will be perfect

Not too bad, but room for improvement!

OK, its all right... but... not very good looking as some other reviews have stated and if youre stuck, youre stuck - you cant give up. But, heres the thing, even if I dont use "Kracks" the points are deducted from my score! Its not that big a thing because no matter how long it takes or how hard the cryptogram is the score is 1000 - or in my case - 700 since 300 points are always deducted. Xzzn hze lnwxzmynypa! (If I didnt get that right, deduct some points!) Thanks!

Simple, but I like it (when it works)

I really like this program a lot! I love cryptograms, and I enjoy being able to do them electronically instead of having to write in letters on paper. But its still a little buggy. Ive had issues with it freezing up quite a bit, especially with the virtual keyboard locking up and not accepting any input (even "cancel"), and Ive had issues with cracks not working (not appearing as used, either, but not being able to get them to trigger), and Ive had issues with it not reporting the scores correctly (it froze on "5 completed" for the longest time, and then suddenly started behaving and reporting 15 completed, for instance). So there are still some things to work out. Featurewise, I mostly like it. I wish I could make it not make sounds, ever, but aside from that I find the interface to be fine aesthetically, although Id kind of like it if punctuation didnt appear as a bubble but just as a punctuation mark within the word as well as above. I do wish there was a way to give up on a puzzle thats stumping me, but I did manage to work through the one that really had me beat (by cheating, with Google, on the trivia crack -- Id rather have admitted defeat and not gotten the points dishonestly, though). Id kind of like better directions, especially on how to use the cracks, which took a little trial and error. I find the puzzles themselves very enjoyable, with a good level of challenge. Id buy expansions sets of puzzles, if they were made available.

Even Free, It Lacks.

The app plays well and the price is right. But it does not save where you are in a puzzle if you stop for any reason. You just have to start all over again. On a personal dislike, I HATE noises and sounds in programs. There is no option to turn the noises on or off unless you just turn your phone volume down. Saving a puzzle and noise option should be there even on a free app.

I like it

I am enjoying the playing the game since I figure out how to play it. It needs more trivia and cryptograms. Instruction are difficult to understand.

Review

Not particularly interesting, and no challenge at all. Agree that its "clunky" and not set-up well with options for moving around. "Kracks" are bizzare as well as a bit goofy.

hours of thinking fun, but could use an update

toss-ups -extremely plain interface for an iPhone app (can be good if you hate unnecessary flashiness) -no skip/pass option if youre stumped as others have commented (if you need this, you probably shouldnt be playing this anyway). if you reeeeally needed to, you could look up answers to the trivia questions online pros -FREE -hours of fun (a myriad of puzzles--have not had one repeat, but you dont know how many there are because of the bugs (see cons) -amusing puzzle answers -three different types of "kracks"/cheats (trivia ones are best because you learn something new if you didnt know it already) -keyboard clicks are satisfying cons/suggestions -bugs in scoring (after a certain point, the scores, kracks deductions, and number of played games remains the same) -quote attributions, if any for puzzles -more current trivia kracks (most of the trivia is extremely outdated) -cheering noise at the end is highly annoying -letters should be highlighted on the keyboard if theyve been used already

Nice but needs work

I wont repeat other great recommendations, but Id like to see the ability to go back and read completed puzzles. :)

Great free app

If you like word games, this one is worth every penny. Its hard enough to be interesting and easy enough so that you dont get frustrated. The "Kracks" (hints) are there if you need them. Ive completed 65 levels and used five "Kracks". Couple of problems: Better proofreading - use of its vs. its. Use of too vs. to. These little errors cause problems in substitution codes. Score screen does not correctly update after each game. It only updates after the first game of a "session". In other words, you must exit the game, reenter the game and solve a level to get your current score.

Fun fun fun.

Itz über kewl only I wish that I could go bac to da ones dat I already did (dunno y but I think dat da quotes r hilarious!!)^^

I solved them all and now they are just replaying in the same order

Keeps me entertained for a long time

I love this app. Its my favorite "get the brain started" application to date. Ive played it so much that the puzzles are recycling. I really would love a new batch of kryptos. Id like it if you could load different groups of puzzles. They got too easy towards the end because I kept and eye out for "you" and "your" patterns because those two words, while not all that common in the english language in general, appeared in almost every puzzle. Also, I could almost garuntee that any single-letter word was "A" and never "I." If users could download krypto-bundles, I think it could renew the challenge and playability. Id also like to see the points matter. Otherwise, it was a good solid 20 hours of gameplay for free. Thanks so much!
